George III copper Pattern Garter Dollar 1804, PR64 BN NGC, die pairing K-3, not listed by ESC or L&S, doubtless a W.J. Taylor restrike of circa 1828 as there is much die-rusting in evidence, giving areas a cloudy appearance (possibly mistaken at NGC and the grade adjusted downward in consequence), overall an exceptionally choice coin of handsome eye-appeal, medium chocolate brown in color with hues of blue iridescence. Planchet seems thicker than most and measures 41mm as opposed to the normal approximately 42 mm diameter. Linecar & Stone comment that Taylor "restruck and muled ad infinitum," accounting for omissions in today's standard references such as ESC. Without doubt, quite rare -- also without doubt, a lovely example of this pattern type!
