Victoria Halfcrown 1840, Young Head, S-3887, KM740, rare early date, UNC Details "surface hairlines" NGC, actually a handsome coin despite its hairlines, for the intense "hard" luster remains fully evident, and the strike is especially crisp. Mostly small contact marks. We imagine this coin was saved at issue but wiped at some point. On this first variety of the Young Head style, the queen's hair fillets are plain (without ornamentation) and the artist's signature is a diminutive, incuse "W.W." on her truncation. Only rarely is an 1840 halfcrown of this caliber offered for sale anywhere around the world.
