Victoria copper 10 Cents 1869, KM-Pn 130 Crowned bust of Queen Victoria left / Chinese characters, Hsiang Chiang I Hao within a beaded circle, Hong-Kong Ten Cents 1869 around, listed in Pridmore only as an AE Proof (Prid-61), Specimen 62 Brown PCGS. Well struck, with light brown patina and not even a hint of the reflective surfaces one would expect of a Proof striking. This is obviously a currency strike, from non-polished dies. As such, there are only two examples of the 1869 10 Cents known, one in silver, sold at auction in London in 2006, and the current example.Prior to the Hong Kong Mint's opening in 1866, 10 Cent coins had been struck at the Royal Mint. After the closing of the Hong Kong Mint in mid-1868, the Royal Mint anticipated receiving further orders and prepared dies dated 1869 for a new Royal Mint coinage. Due to having a surplus of coins on hand, Hong Kong did not order further coins until 1872. Because of this, only the two sample coins were struck, on in copper and one in silver. Included is a copy of the letter from the Royal Mint stating that this piece is pure copper.

Estimate: 30000.00-40000.00 USD
