French Colony. 20 Livres, Double Counterstamp on trimmed Portugal 1782 6,400 Reis, counterstamped on the obverse, three times around the edge with the letter "S in an indented square (authorized in 1798), with a value of 66 Shillings, this piece was later brought to Martinique, where the value was placed at 22 Livres with a counterstamp of "22" over an eagle (authorized in 1805), 11.54g, 178.1gr, Gordon 110, similar to Pr. 33, XF45 NGC. Ex. J.C. Rovensky, lot 2134; Ex: John J. Ford Collection, lot 2644. All counterstamps are quite sharp and the coin shows no major flaws. Extremely rare with the two counterstamps. Sold with the original collector's ticket and Spink envelope.
