Carlos IV gold 2 Escudos 1806 M-FA, from the wreck of the SS New York, KM435.1, AU50 NGC. Included is the original custom holder supplied with all of the SS New York coins. The SS New York was a steamship that made regular passage between New Orleans and Galveston during the 1840's. In 1846, on September 7th, a Hurricane sent the ship to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico with a loss of 17 of the 53 passengers and approximately $40,000 in gold and silver coins at 1846 values (millions today). Louisiana resident Avery Munson made contact with one coin from the shipwreck in 1990, and after continued searching brought up a total of 400 gold coins and 2,000 silver coins by 2007. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $375 in VF, $500 in EF, $750 in UNC.

Estimate: 600.00-700.00 USD
