Popayan Decimo 1864- 1866 Study Lot, KM145.2 and KM145.2a of Popayan. An unprecedented opportunity, in the USA and possibly the entire world, to acquire such a large sampling of such a scarce item in one single lot. The first five are dated 1864 and have the fineness shown as 0.900. The final two are the notably rare 1866 with its fineness reduced to 0.835; that elusive issue is reviewed in our January 2012 auction. The 1864 Quintet includes pieces from VG+ to nearly EF (but with some fine scratches, nonetheless among the highest grade seen for the type !).
