Escojida de Cafe Specimen Token Trio, Fonrobert 8334 listed the copper centavo-size item in 1878 (under Ecuador) so these obviously pre-date that catalogue. Only ESCOJIDA de CAFE is shown on one side while the city of SAN JOSE (the capital) is the only marking on the other side of both the copper, and otherwise identical, Aluminum 19mm issues. A 22.5 mm copper, Eklund 1042, has a large C.R. under the San Jose. Listed by Rulau, probably via Dana's input, as SJS 43,44 & 45. Proof calibre specimen strikings of all three, presumably quite rare.Dana Roberts Collection and Study Group.
