Medal or possible William Walker Pattern, Uncatalogued REPA. de NICA. (Republica de Nicaragua) encircling a coat of arms like that of the CAR with five mountains, the sea and the rising sun. The sole bold letter "W" causes one to ponder the possible influence of William Walker; Dana reminds us that there is no "W" in the Spanish Alphabet. This style of item certainly might have been produced around 1850-1860; Walker was the President of the Republic from 1855 -57. This could be a button, or a embossing seal, but it is certainly charming and historically enticing. Copper, 3.0 grams, on a 28 mm. flan with the central design segment measuring 20.5 mm.
