KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip III Arrhidaios, 323-317 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 4.18 g, 12 h), a contemporary Celtic imitation, Magnesia, c. 323-319. Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, AT monogram. Price P56 (for prototype). Same obverse die as Roma e-sale 1, 128. Quite different in style from the official issues, this coin is probably, very close to the prototype, a Celtic imitation struck around the end of the century. Very fine.
