KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.02 g, 1 h), possibly struck under Demetrius I Poliorketes, uncertain mint possibly in mainland Greece, c. 310-275 BC. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on high-backed throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; in field to left, ΔHMHTP monogram; below throne, Θ. Price 868. SNG Delepierre 1029. Very rare. Noted but not illustrated by Price. Very fine.
