IONIA. Ephesos. Circa 180-67 BC. Cistophoric Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 12.57 g, 12 h), year 44 (MΔ) = 91-90. Basket (cista mystica) from which snake coils; around, ivy wreath with fruits. Rev. Two snakes coiled around a bow case; to left, MΔ (date) above EΦE; to right, lighted torch; between snakes heads, thunderbolt. Kleiner, Dated 45. Pinder 35. Very rare variety with around half a dozen examples available. Obverse struck from a worn die, otherwise, very fine.
