IONIA. Smyrna. Circa 2nd century BC. Cistophoric Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 12.34 g, 12 h). Basket (cista mystica) from which snake coils; around, ivy wreath with fruits. Rev. Two snakes coiled around a bow case; to left, ZMYP; to right, Z above turreted head of the Tyche of Smyrna to right; between snakes heads, ΠPE monogram. Apparently unpublished in the standard references. Cf. BMC 1-2 and SNG von Aulock 2160 (both with completely different monogram and emission). Extremely rare and unknown. Good very fine.
