Banavasi. Ca. A.D. 250-400. Potin unit (19 mm, .96 g). Bull standing right with crude Brahmi legend around / Bow and arrow symbols. MACW -; Ganesh pp. 33-110. Pierced but attractive specimen of this enigmatic series, with lovely olive-green patina. Scarce. Very fine.

These thin coins are found in north Karnataka and are ascribed to the 'Period of Confusion' from ca. A.D. 250-400 that followed the rule of the Chutus. They depict a standing bull - a Shaivite symbol - with a legend (often blundered) that reads Rajno Vishnurudra Budhananda, a ruler known only from these coins.
