Germany, Nuremberg. 16th-17th centuries Æ plaque (155 mm). By or in the style of Hans Petzoldt, 1551-1633. Column of mounted and foot soldiers on trail descending from a hillside village. The main figure is a woman riding sidesaddle and receiving attention from the soldiers around her, while a pair of strategists plan on a table before her. Decorative floral border. Cf. Weber 561 (design) and 562 (border). Old aftercast, perhaps from a worn original. Attractive overall brown patina, darkening slightly in the recesses. One open hole at about 1 h for mounting, and 5 others evenly spaced around the floral border, which were opened in the original but are closed in this recast. Small piercing at 12 h which has been plugged. An attractive and attention-getting plaque. .

Ex Jacob Hirch collection (USA); Albert Visart de Bocarme collection (historian and numismatist, born Brussels, 16 October 1868 - died Bruges, 7 April 1947); Loblecke catalogue, 1909.
