Bhavadatta. 2nd century B.C. PB (19 mm, 9.54 g). Human figure standing facing, with tree-in-railing to left / Ornate swastika with a taurine at the end of each arm; Brahmi legend Rano Bhavadatasa around. Not listed in Pieper and Mitchiner. Extremely Rare and important coin. Fine.

Tripuri was an ancient city located near modern-day Jabalpur. The Dattas were a local dynasty that briefly issued lead coins after the collapse of the Mauryan empire, and before the advent of the Satavahanas. Only three Datta rulers are known, with just a handful of coins reported. No specimen of these Datta rulers has appeared in auction... ever. Our specimen has the king's name Rano Bhavadatasa clearly visible.
