GALLIA NARBONENSIS. Æ Dupondius (28mm, 14.72 g, 6h). Countermark applied during the reign of Tiberius, AD 14-37. AVG in rectangular countermark on a bronze dupondius of Livia (as Pietas). Pangerl 10. Host Fine, c/m VF, green surfaces. Rare.

From the Richard Baker Collection.

The Gallic AVG countermarks are distinguishable from the Pannonian series by virtue of the separate, rather than ligate, AV. This particularly variant with the a G rather than a C is tentatively attributed to the Narbo area.
