GOVERNORS OF SIND: al-Hakam b. 'Awan al-Kalbi, ca. 730-740, AR damma (0.42g), NM, ND, A-P1493.2, muhammad / rasul / Allah within square of pellets // 3-line legend 'amara bihi / al-hakam / bin 'awana, much rarer than type P1493.1, choice VF, RRR. Types P1493.1 and P1493.2 are glaringly different, possibly produced at 2 different mints. Alternatively, P1493.1 was struck with dies imported from an Umayyad mint, P1493.2 from locally engraved dies, both at the same mint. The style of type P1493.2 became the standard for the next several governors.
