MEXICO: AE 10 [centavos] token (10.48g), ND [ca. 1890s], as Grove-1637, 30mm bronze hacienda token, large central "10" within beaded circle with "HACIENDA DE TUXPANGO (rosette) MEXICO (rosette)" around // traditional eagle / snake / cactus motif, prooflike, mostly red, plain edge, UNC. Hacienda de Tuxpango was a sugar cane plantation near Veracruz, Ixtaczoquitlan. The fabric and other characteristics are reminiscent of the provincial republic series of tokens made by Lauer in 1890. This piece differs from the Grove piece by being in bronze, has a smaller "0" in the denomination, and has a smaller diameter for the inner circle. It could be a sample produced by Lauer that was not adopted.
