UNITED STATES: AV medal (6.18g), 1887, VF-EF, 31mm gold (possibly 14 kt) award medal of the Grand Army of the Republic Women's Relief Corps by Braxmar, New York, cross pattee-shaped medal with engraved image of Union and Confederate soldiers shaking hands with two other figures and surrounding Union flags, all with surrounding blue enamel in inner circle with WOMANS (sic) / RELIEF / CORPS / 1883 on arms of the cross // (engraved) "Presented to / MARY E. ALMY / Jan.7. 1887." on top arm and (engraved) "BY / Dexter Relief Corps / No19" on bottom arm, with loop and ring for suspension, plain edge, R. In researching this piece, similar pieces in bronze seem to be common, but none in gold were noted.
