In approximately 225 AD during the reign of Severus Alexander, a group of over 10,000 Roman denarii was intended as payment for military troops in the Roman province of Illyricum, now known as the Northern Balkan Peninsula. These coins, however, were never distributed to the troops, but instead were unearthed in 1979 near Pristina, Yugoslavia, and are now known as the "Pristina Hoard".
