DANISH WEST INDIES: Frederik V, 1746-1766, BI 24 skilling, 1764, circulating counterfeit in very debased billon, oblique-reeded edge, likely manufactured in Birmingham, the English city that developed large scale counterfeiting into a major industry, F-VF. The technique of bonding thin silver plating to copper was developed in Sheffield in the mid-1700's and was thereafter adopted to the task of counterfeiting at Birmingham in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
