Charles III gold 8 Escudos 1770 PN-J XF45 NGC, Popayan mint, KM38.2, Fr-24. Though exhibiting some light wear as a result of limited use in circulation, this attractive example displays a pleasing golden-orange tone concentrated near the peripheries and extending to a beautiful tone throughout the entirety of the surfaces. Despite being in the name of Charles III, the bust on the obverse is actually that of his brother and predecessor, Ferdinand VI, and would continue on this type until 1772, a full 13 years after the latter's death.
