Republic copper "PAT 97" Souvenir Peso 1897 AU50 ANACS, Struck by Gorham Manufacturing Company (Providence, RI), KMX-M1a. PAT 97 on truncation, wide date variety, noted "Weak Strike". An important Cuban rarity, this example's apparent softness is almost entirely due to a weak strike rather than any significant wear. This fact is discernible from the legends, which remain sharp in contrast with the flatter central portions.
