Gibraltar
British Colony. Type IV Countermarked 10 Bits ND (1770-1772) VF30 NGC, KM20 (under Martinique), Prid-16 (under Dominica). Base coin Very Fine and attractive, countermark Extremely Fine. A Mexico 8 Reales 1757 Mo-MF centrally pierced from the obverse with a heart-shaped hole with patterned border on the cut edges. Although attributed to Martinique by NGC, discussion and documentation gleaned from Bob Lyall indicate that the type I and II heart-shaped piercings are decidedly Gibraltarian in origin.
