Edward VI (1547-1553) Shilling ND (1551-1553) MS61 NGC, Southwark mint, Y mm, Fine silver issue, 6.04gm, S-2482, N-1937. A generally ubiquitous Tudor issue, but in a scarcely seen state of preservation. Indeed, across both NGC and PCGS's databases, only two specimens of Edward VI Shillings have been graded Mint State - a 1547 dated pattern, and the present offering. This piece clearly saw very little circulation, with considerable sharp detail remaining glowing with original luster. Many different bust types were produced for this facing-issue, and the particular portrait featured on the present piece accentuates the youth of the then-King who was just 9 when crowned. An outstanding hammered Shilling, unique in its grade and desirable thus.
