Oliver Cromwell Crown 1658/7 AU55 NGC, KM393.2, S-3226, ESC-10. Handsomely toned and with minimal high-point wear, a splendid specimen of Blondeau's Cromwell portrait Crown. Sometimes considered a coinage limited to patterns, evident wear on some examples of this issue indicate circulation; the present piece, although demonstrating this light handling, has extremely limited hairlines or marks in the field giving an immensely satisfying appearance. The iconic obverse die-crack is represented here in its first stages, indicative of a relatively early striking. The first Crown to be produced with a lettered edge, enticing in appearance and worthy of a fine collection of English milled silver.
