William III Crown 1700 MS63 NGC, KM494.3, S-3474, ESC-1010. The Great Recoinage of 1696 led to several years of intense production at the Royal Mint, churning out copious silver coins to attempt to rectify the commonly clipped, worn and counterfeited coinage in circulation. Accordingly, many of these coins show either shoddy production or heavy circulation; the present offering, however, has been well-struck for issue and beautifully well-kept, exhibiting dove-gray surfaces which positively beam with luster. Although featuring some metal flaws common for the type, the planchet of this Crown is otherwise very good quality and has lovingly embraced the impression of the dies. Topped off with a subtle magenta tone, this coin impresses at every turn and will surely bring joy to the collection of its next proud owner.
