George III Crown 1818 MS63 NGC, KM675, S-3787, ESC-2005/2006. LVIII on edge. An exceptionally flashy and prooflike specimen, Pistrucci's skilled portrait of George showing a matte texture contrasting the toned mirror field behind. This particular Crown has a visible lower left serif of M in BRITANNIARUM (a feature missing in almost all George III Crowns besides proofs); both 1s in the date have been struck with a broken punch, and the reverse shows a clear reworking of the garter line. Bull says of the George III Crown series: "the standard of striking of these crowns was so high and they were issued, and are still found, in such perfect preservation that it is almost impossible to distinguish a proof from a perfect ordinary specimen." With strong eye appeal and attributes of a special strike, whether proof or not this is certainly a select representative of the George III Crown series.
