George IV 1/2 Crown 1821 MS66 NGC, KM676, S-3807. Lightly garnished reverse shield. An outstanding premium gem specimen boasting one of the most attractive shield reverses of the entire British numismatic series. Exactly struck so as to do full justice to Pistrucci's marvellous design, every minute detail rendered in bold relief, the planchet frosty white and lustrous with abundant red-gold tone to the peripheries. George IV's later coinage, although sensitively produced by William Wyon and featuring a portrait more to the King's favour, did not match Pistrucci's early engraving for technical standard and visual effect. This specimen is tied with just two others for finest graded by either NGC or PCGS, firmly placing it at the peak of quality for the type. An extraordinary Halfcrown sure to appeal to those collectors concerned solely with the best.
