Victoria gold 5 Pounds 1893 AU58 NGC, KM787, S-3872. From a mintage of just 20,000 pieces, a scarce business strike 5 Pounds in near Mint State. Many 1887 currency 5 Pounds were retained due to their issue coinciding with Victoria's golden jubilee and it marking the first change in portrait in 50 years; this means that high-grade specimens are not unusual today. The 1893 mintage, however, generated far less excitement and accordingly the majority of the business strikes of that year entered circulation. This piece has seen some wear and numerous contact marks, but otherwise remains lustrous and bright with considerable eye appeal.
