George V Proof Crown 1935 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS, by Percy Metcalfe, KM842, S-4050. Struck in .925 (Sterling) silver. Dubbed the 'Rocking Horse' Crown for its stylised design, this Jubilee issue was struck in large numbers as commemoratives, but few Proofs were produced. The present specimen is simply sublime, its purer silver content allowing it to develop a patina impossible for its .500 silver currency counterparts. Its surfaces glisten with deep cobalt and magenta tone which spreads throughout the planchet; George's portrait shows superb frosting in line with its 'deep cameo' certification, exceptionally well struck-up giving maximum eye-appeal to the generally softly-engraved design. At the highest grade level for this type at either NGC or PCGS, this Crown would be well-placed within an elite collection of British Proofs.
