Vittorio Emanuele III gold 100 Lire 1912-R MS62+ PCGS, Rome mint, KM50, Fr-26. Mintage: 4,946. A very large-size gold type, ever-popular for its iconic imagery and limited mintage figure. The softness of this coin's fabric combined with its large mass means that even in their short journey from the mint in bank bags, these pieces picked up numerous scrapes and marks courtesy of their similarly massive neighbors. Accordingly, most MS62 specimens of this type exhibit far deeper and more abundant scratches to the surfaces; this present piece, however, is far less affected and indeed appears choice for the issue (and the grade). Fully lustrous with a fresh 'as struck' appearance, Vittorio's portrait sharply defined from a strong strike, a premium example and sure to generate tremendous interest from keen-eyed collectors.
