Netherlands East Indies
Dutch Colony. United East India Company gold Counterstamped Ducat ND (1686-1700) XF Details (Corrosion), KM5, Fr-5, Scholten-9. 3.48 gm. Counterstamp AU. "B" counterstamped within shield on Gelderland provincial Ducat dated 1646. A spectacular rarity and purportedly one of only two known of the type. Struck in the Netherlands between 1686-1700 under a proclamation that announced that only Dutch, Venetian, and Hungarian Ducats of full weight, including those marked with "B" (Batavia) should be considered current. Upon follow through a vast majority were found to be sub-standard leaving a tiny population, including this coin, in existence. With only a minor corrosion spot deterring from what is, all things considered, a miraculous presentation, this is arguably a once in a lifetime coin and worthy of the utmost regard.
