Java. United East India Company gold 1/2 Rupee 1799 AU55 NGC, Batavia mint, KM177, Fr-12, Scholten-448 (RR). When the Company was dissolved on June 30, 1799 the production of this issue was already well underway thus its designation under the Company as opposed to the Batavian Republic. This transitional period adds context to the rarity of this piece. The present example an impressive and wholesome representative, with as-made die and planchet flaws, pleasing enunciation within the devices, and a handsome display of cabernet hues blending with the golden chroma.
