Netherlands East Indies
Sumatra. East India Company copper Proof Pattern 2 Kepings AH 1200 (1787) PR63 Brown NGC, KM-Pn3, Scholten-959.c(RRRR). Small date. Noted in Scholten to be "of the utmost rarity" and auction records of the past twenty years corroborate those observations as this coin has been offered only once and described as an XF example by Baldwin's, realizing an impressive $6,797 in May of 2014 (Auction #86, Lot #546). NGC has attributed this piece as actually being a proof issue, as it was struck in only as such, and thus further cementing the rarity of the piece as quite possibly one of only a two or three known examples, and certainly the finest graded. The sharpness of the strike is true and the overall surface appearance is choice. A fleeting prize deserving of an aggressive bid.
