Sumatra. East India Company copper Proof Pattern 3 Kepings AH 1202 (1787) PR64 Brown NGC, KM-Pn12, Scholten-950. Oblique milled edge variety. Profoundly rare, and quite possibly the finest extant of this variety with the oblique edge. Utterly beautiful and deep burgundy patina, with fantastic cupric halos around the devices. A similar yet decidedly less attractive piece sold in a May 2014 Baldwin's sale for $3,568 hammer (Auction #86, Lot #549). This piece sure to evoke similar if not even more intense attention.
