Peter I silver Original "Accession to the Throne" Medal 1682 MS62 NGC, Diakov-3.1 (R4), Smirnov-158/a, Reichel-881 (R3). 66mm. Original by V. Klimov. Obv. Laureate and mantled bust of Peter I right. Rev. Peter, holding Mother Russia's hand, points to the Temple of Fame at the mountain top. Amazing detail with prooflike fields and a touch of golden patina. Both sides display light hairlines and the overall appearance is appealing. We can find no examples of this original striking being sold and the closest we can come is the sale of Diakov-3.3, a Yudin copy, by Dmitry Markov in the January 2017 New York Sale for the hammer price of $6,250. This Yudin copy is not nearly so rare as the original striking we offer here. Extremely rare. Housed in an NGC oversized holder.
