Alexander II silver Specimen medal 1862 SP61 PCGS, Diakov-707.1 (R2), Smirnov-646. 86mm. By P. Brusnitsyn. This piece was issue to celebrate the opening of the Millennium Monument in Novgorod. In attendance was Alexander II, his son (the future Alexander III), and other family members. Obv. Portrait of Alexander II right. Rev. View of the monument celebrating the Millennium of the Russian State. Bold relief, with reflective fields. Both sides exhibit medium coppery patina with light hairlines. Scarce in copper, this medal is extremely rare in silver and we can find no record of one selling. Housed in PCGS oversized holder.
