Republic gold 1/2 Pond 1893 XF45 NGC, Pretoria mint, KM9.2. An immensely rare coin, but particularly in higher grades; seemingly all that enter the market have been mounted as jewelry, encountered significant damage, or both. To find an XF45 (and a premium example for the grade at that) is extremely unusual and must command significant collector attention. Deep gold original surfaces show only light, shallow wear to the highest points, the strike central and a light peach tone encroaches from the peripheries. Endlessly demanded in such a satisfying grade as this, one of the most elusive ZAR types.
