Caracalla, as Augustus (AD 198-217). AV aureus (21mm, 6.92 gm, 6h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 3/5, wavy flan. Rome, 211 AD. ANTONINVS PIVS-AVG BRIT, laureate head of Caracalla right, slight drapery on far shoulder / P M TR P XIIII-COS III P P, Caracalla (as Virtus) standing left, right foot on captive seated below, parazonium in right hand, reversed spear in left. RIC IV -. Cohen -. BMCRE -. Calicó 2704. Unpublished in the standard references and only the third recorded specimen. The other two specimens are: CNG Triton VI, (14 January 2003), lot 1012; CNG 66, (10 May 2004), lot 1545.
