Carausius (AD 286/7-293). BI antoninianus (25mm, 3.57 gm, 7h). NGC Good 4/5 - 1/5, plugged. Camulodunum (Colchester), AD 292-293. CARAVSIVS ET FRATRES SVI, jugate, radiate and cuirassed busts of Carausius, Diocletian and Maximian left / PAX AVGGG, Pax standing facing, head left, olive branch upward in right hand, vertical scepter in left; S-P across fields, C in exergue. Carausius produced this very rare series of jugate portraits in an effort to convince Diocletian and Maximian to legitimize his rule in Britain, but it ultimately proved futile.
