Constantine I (AD 307-337). AV medallion of 1-1/2 solidi (26mm, 6.68 gm, 11h). NGC MS 5/5 - 3/5. Nicomedia, 3rd officina, ca. AD 330. CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG, rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine I right, seen from front / ADV-EN-TVS AVG N, emperor on horse walking left, head facing, raising right hand, reins in left, preceded by Victory walking left, head right, wreath upward in right hand, palm in left; SMNΓ in exergue. RIC VII 160 var (SMN exergue). Extremely rare. Very eye appealing.

This medallion was likely issued for the arrival of Constantine at Nicomedia, around the summer of AD 330, after the dedication of Constantinople on 11 May AD 330. Another example from this same series was sold by Numismatica Ars Classica (Auction 80, 20 October 2014, lot 257, realized 120,000 Swiss francs), but with a different diadem type and exergual mark.
