Octavian, as Sole Imperator (31-27 BC). AR denarius (20mm, 3.93 gm, 9h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. Rome or Italian mint, autumn 30 BC. Victory standing right on prow of galley, palm in left hand over shoulder, wreath upward in right hand / IMP CAESAR, Octavian driving triumphal quadriga right, laurel branch in right hand, reins in left. RIC I 264. Beautiful deep cabinet toning with gunmetal iridescence.

The reverse on this series commemorates Octavian's entry into Alexandria and was likely struck from the first batch of silver he seized from the Ptolemaic treasury and sent back to Rome.
