SELEUCID KINGDOM. Antiochus II Theos (261-246 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.37 gm, 5h). NGC MS 5/5 - 4/5. Aï Khanoum mint. Diademed head of Antiochus I right / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ / ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ, Apollo seated left on omphalus, testing arrow in right hand, resting left hand upon grounded bow behind; Δ in inner left field above the arrow. SC 435.3 (Antiochus I). ESM 703 (Antiochus I). Beautifully framed on the flan, crisply struck with lovely satiny surfaces.
Although SC and Newell both assign this issue to Antiochus I, dated to Series II (ca. 268-261 BC), every listing in sales archives and NGC describe this coin as belonging to Antiochus II (261-246 BC).
