Vienna gold Salvator 12 Ducat Medal ND (c. mid-1600's) MS60 NGC, Unger-9?. 46.5mm. 41.58gm. Given as a Medal of Merit of the City of Vienna. Obv. Half-length portrait of Christ, dividing SALVATOR-MVNDI, facing left within laurel wreath. Rev. Two coats-of-arms in cartouche, with MVNRP above and VIENN below, all within a laurel wreath. A tiny M-P is stamped into the reverse below the coats-of-arms (Mathias Pichler?). Boldly struck for the issue, with the obverse showing a bold double-strike. The surfaces show significant mint luster with greenish-gold patina. This is an extremely rare gold medal and we can find no other examples in the weight of 12 Ducats.
