João V gold 6400 Reis 1734-M AU55 NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM135, Russo-282. Sharply struck with considerable mint luster and strong detailing throughout the raised motifs despite the usual strike softness. Other than a light mark in the right obverse field, the open expanses are relatively fresh, with only light wisps scattered throughout. This rare type struck at Minas Gerais is listed as "Rare" in the SCWC, and remains a highly sought-after piece among Brazilian and Portuguese collectors. The last time we had the pleasure of offering this coin was in our 2012 CICF auction where it hammered for $50,000, and we expect collectors of this rare issue will be delighted to see it available once again.
