Republic gold 4 Escudos 1838-ST AU50 NGC, Quito mint, KM19. A strong example of this rarely offered type, shown here with warm, reddish tones that cling to the peripheral elements and moments of original bloom that radiate throughout the fields. Detail remains strong across the central images, with the expected level of wear affecting the higher points. A few flan irregularities are noted on the reverse, but are fairly usual for the issue and not at all distracting to the eye. Visually appealing and a coin that commands a premium when encountered as such.
