William & Mary gold 5 Guineas 1693 AU55 PCGS, KM479.2, S-3423. QVINTO edge. Featuring the jugate portraits of William and Mary, this highly lustrous selection is absolutely superb for its AU55 grade. There appears to be essentially no wear to the high points of the design, befitting of a coin removed from circulation before it had a chance to change hands more than a few times. The entirety of the planchet glows with a warming luster, contact marks peppered here and there in the obverse field but almost nonexistent on the reverse. Of unusually high quality for this somewhat flatly engraved type, this piece catches the eye immediately with its bold strike and bright surfaces; deserving of in-hand inspection for a full, accurate appreciation of its eye appeal, a tremendous offering.
