George IV Proof Crown 1826 PR63 NGC, KM699, S-3806. SEPTIMO edge. An enticing specimen of this Proof-only Crown, debuting Wyon's new 'bare head' portrait of George IV. Certainly worthy of its choice designation, and perhaps more besides; very few contact marks mar its silky surfaces, toned a moody steel-blue with hints of gold. The King's portrait shows a matte silvery luster distinguishing it from the fields which, despite their patination, hint at underlying brilliance. The reverse exhibits more brightness still, bold devices cloaked with a lustrous glow. From a mintage of just 150 pieces, this premium quality piece truly deserves its place in an elite collection of British Crowns.
