Victoria 1/2 Crown 1841 MS63+ NGC, KM740, S-3888, ESC-2176 (R3). The single-highest certified example of this rare date by NGC, with just one slightly higher graded specimen (an MS64) at PCGS. The majority of Victoria's early coins are scarce, particularly in higher grade; it was rather common for them to remain in circulation for a considerable length of time before being recalled and remelted. Accordingly, even in very low grades this Halfcrown date attracts strong bidder attention, leading us to anticipate extreme collector excitement at this choice Mint State specimen entering the market! Boasting prooflike elements through its slight reflectivity (particularly on the reverse), this piece has been expertly struck and clearly spent no time in circulation, with no evidence of wear nor significant marks to its lustrous surfaces. The planchet is a bright argent in color, with the lightest hints of pale gold patina forming at the peripheries. Next to the 1839 date, this is one of the most desirable early Victorian Halfcrowns and is certain to attract fierce bidding in this superb preservation.
